Joan Bragar, Ph.D., Executive Consultant with The Advisory Alliance, has over 25 years of experience in creating and delivering leadership development and executive coaching programs that develop leaders to face challenges and achieve results in the private and public sectors around the world.

Her clients have included managers and executive teams from Mellon Financial, United Technologies, AXA Financial, LG Group, and the Ministries of Health in Egypt and Afghanistan.

She has taught leadership as part of the faculties of Boston University, Babson College, Hult School of Management, and the Arthur D. Little School of Management.

Dr. Bragar has launched and built leadership practices at major consulting firms, including Arthur D. Little, CSC Index, and Management Sciences for Health. These practices areas have included leadership principles, practice models and programs adapted to fit business needs.

As Director of Research at the Forum Corporation she developed training models in Leadership and Influence that have been used in leadership development programs for Fortune 500 companies, including General Electric.

Her own research is on the leadership practices of high performing managers. This research identified the ability to “promote the development of other people’s talents” as the number one practice of managers who are perceived as good leaders.

She has applied leading-edge private sector leadership development processes to health ministries in the developing world. Her book, Managers who Lead, A Handbook for Improving Health Services, and Video, Seeds of Success, document the health results, including reductions in maternal and infant mortality achieved through improved leadership using local resources.

Other publications include: “Principles of Adult Learning” published in Instructional Development Paradigms, “The Customer-Focused Quality Leader” published in Quality Progress Journal, and “Accelerating Shared Learning for Business Results”, published in Prism.
